From Ballot to Trophy

Once winners are tallied from the results of the online votes, they are personally notified before any public announcement is made, allowing time for communications throughout the wider business and the coordination of marketing strategies. Not everyone can be a winner; all who take part are encouraged to come back next year. Details of our award winners are then made public via the website, the award winners’ magazine and the subscriber newsletter.

Qualifying for the Race

Judging or vetting of entries is conducted by a jury focused on the main category groups. Each committee has five members with two rights of vote. Judges are both volunteers and invitees, and their average scores determine which competitors run for the category award. The nominations with the top three scores in a category run for the public votes in that group; where scores tie, the race may carry more than three competitors.

SNO Score Rate (out of 100%) Group Outcome
1 80 – 100 A Cleared to run
2 70 – 79 B Cleared to run
3 50 – 69 C Cleared to run
4 0 – 49 D Eliminated from the race

How the Awards Are Graded

The votes are tallied by the online system, and the principle of scoring stays the same. Where two or more candidates hold the same score, the jury sits and re-votes to determine the winner. The different categories of award depend on the scores as indicated below.

SNO Score Rate (out of 100%) Group Award
1 80 – 100 A Platinum
2 70 – 79 B Gold
3 50 – 69 C Silver
4 0 – 49 D No award, but mentioned

Every nomination in groups B and C wins a Gold Award medal and a Silver Award medal respectively. Nominations in group D receive no award but are mentioned. During judging, each entry is reviewed and rated by no fewer than five (5) judges. All entries are viewed and rated at the judges’ convenience over the internet, on a scale of 1–10, and all judges’ comments are made available in the entrant’s entry-submission account when the Award winners are announced.
